Ster-O-Tap Dual Stage Pro Water Filters

The versatile PRIME WATER DUAL STAGE filter system insures that these problems will not affect your water quality. The core of the system, the Dual Stage Filter, combines the best of two technologies in a unique two step approach.

• The special, high performance, carbon shell removes sediment, bad taste and odor and other organic compounds.
• The Ster-O-Tap® micro filtration membranes stop all bacteria and cysts and prevents them from reaching your faucet.
• Because all particles larger than 0.15 micron are removed from the water, the Ster-O-Tap^® reduce the amount of oxidized iron as well as the scaling potential of the water. Although the water still contains dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, the lack of particles keep these minerals from precipitating and scale forming is thus prevented.

Conventional methods as RO, UV treatment or chemical disinfectants only partly and inadequately inactivate micro-organisms, as water temperature, pH, turbidity and other external factors, as well as the relative resistance of micro-organisms to disinfectants, influence effectiveness.

The Ster-O-Tap ® low pressure membrane technology of Prime Water Systems offers a consistent and efficacious solution to biological control. Ster-O-Tap ® membranes remove in excess of 1 million (10⁶) times more organisms or particulate matter than the highest rated carbon blocks, ceramic filters or UV sterilizers.

Ster-O-Tap^® MF and UF membrane cartridges have been tested and certified for ANSI/NSF Standard 42 for particulate reduction (class 1) and Standard 53 for cyst reduction and other health effects. Also PWS manufacturing facilities produce in accordance with the ANSI/NSF quality standards. In addition to the foregoing, Prime Water Systems is making a continued effort to provide the end user with quality control data, to demonstrate the ability of our products to produce consistent safe water.

Ster-O-Tap^® MF and UF membrane cartridges undergo elaborate integrity testing before shipment. Extensive bacterial removal testing by independent test institutions is carried out on an ongoing basis, to confirm in house test results. 

According to a FDA protocol, samples of Ster-O-Tap^® membrane cartridges are regularly shock challenged (immediate application of a highly concentrated bacteria suspension) with Pseudomonas Diminuta (the smallest bacteria with 0.3 micron diameter) in a concentration of 10⁷ colony forming units (cfu) per cm² of membrane surface. The target effluent concentration to be reached is max. 1 cfu per 100 ml.

Assuming a membrane surface of 500 cm², as in the Dual Stage filter, a total challenge of 500 x 10⁷ (= 5 x 10⁹) cfu in suspension should, in accordance with the protocol, be applied. As the effluent is not allowed to contain > 1 cfu/100 ml, a10⁸ (log 8 or 99.999999%) removal is required. The test results show a consistent removal in this order of magnitude or better, if higher concentrations are used on larger membrane surfaces (see test results). 

The Ster-O-Tap^® membrane cartridges have also proven to provide effective long term protection against bacterial contamination. A Dual Stage filter tested for this purpose was challenged with an e.coli concentration, equivalent to 60 x the concentration of coliform bacteria in raw sewage ( ± 10⁹/100 ml). The conclusion of the test was that Ster-O-Tap^® membrane cartridges, also under extreme bacteria outbreaks, offer effective long term protection.

Ster-O-Tap^® MF capillary membrane cartridges have been tested and certified by NSF International against ANSI/NSF Standard 42 for Particulate Reduction (Class1) and ANSI/NSF Standard 53 for Cysts and Turbidity reduction.
